How To Prepare For Surgery
Before Surgery
A nurse from the surgery center will contact you prior to your procedure to review pre-operative instructions.? The patient receiving anesthesia should not have any food or water after midnight the night before surgery including no gum, hard candy, chewing tobacco or cigarettes.
If the patient is receiving local sedation, they may eat a light breakfast/lunch. Local pain management patients are to be NPO 6 hrs prior to procedure.
Please do not take any medications after midnight unless instructed by your surgeon or the nurse at our center.
Inhalers may be used as prescribed by the patient?s physician.? Please bring these with you to the Surgery Center.
Day of Surgery
Please dress comfortably by wearing loose fitting clothes?and comfortable shoes. Do not bring jewelry or valuables to the center. Please remove all body jewelry. Bring an eyeglass case if you wear glasses. Do not wear makeup, cologne or contact lenses.? We provide containers for dentures.
Please bring any papers that the physician may have given to you such as x-rays. Also, remember to bring your license and insurance card. If you have a living will or advance directives, please bring a copy with you the day of surgery.
Patients of any age must have a responsible adult accompanying them to the Surgery Center, staying with them during the procedure and driving them home after the procedure. They may NOT drive themselves.?
After Surgery
Someone should stay with the patient for 24 hours after the procedure.
You physician will provide post-op/discharge instructions for you and the nurse will provide you with written discharge instructions.? If you experience any complications, please contact 911.
